Blender: Displace modifier for practice

It’s the astonishing tool that makes ditch or mountain on surface of a object.
It’s also a visualization tool that turns colors into shapes.

I made some prints for tests as shown below. After that, I found Some are good but others are bad for the tool.

Like github character, cartoon or vector shaped picture is good for it. Icons and trade marks are also nice. But if a texture sticks on the mesh, side color should not be rendered.

The face of Steve Jobs became such a horrible look, while the original picture is simply black and white. Human face is difficult, probably because faces are not formed by color edge, it shapes mountain or valley with uniform skin color.

I tried to make other picture like map, coin, color picture, and animated some of these.

Best practice I think is, first turn a picture into black and white to simplify the gradation. Next bump the picture, then  put original colorful picture on the surface.

Another best practice is making picture for displace modifier for the first hand. The modifier allow us to make 3D object form color. In the point of view, color is just a handle to make CGI.
D3 or other visualization library can create such graphics.
