Using Blender’s displace modifier, I created 3D map from 2D map.
The original map is below.
And solidified map is below.
It’s recognizable as United States. And the red color state outstands among other gray stats, as expected.
But some inner borders are ditched with no reason. The original picture was generated by programming, so it has no noise, still there is inconsistency between 2D and 3D.
That’s not good.
Anyway, I wanted to fill gray states with a color. 2D map do it by fill areas. See below for example.
What about 3D? I think equivalent of filling areas with color in 3D is to pour colored water.
