Blender2.78: Adaptive Subsurf and Microdisplacement Experiment

Adaptive subdivision surface and microdisplacement is a new feature of Blender 2.78.

 

Tips and tutorial:

But I stuck on how to appear “Adaptive” check button in Subdivision Surface modifier.

To do it, you must change “Supported” into “Experimental” in Render menu.

To test the feature, I followed the tutorial video below, which explains almost everything we should know about the feature.

 

Experiments:

Cabbage:

Snow:

I think snow texture is a good for microdisplacement.

Muddy ground:

Mix with glossy shader, muddy ground is also good for microdisplacement.

Fake hair:

Noise texture can make fake hair on an object. The moss on the rocks was made by microdisplacement.
