Blender: Moss (Fake Hair) by Microdisplacement

Result:

Advantage over hair simulation is the very low file size, and that many objects with moss can be rendered in short time thanks to adaptive subsurf.

Disadvantage of it is that if camera is too close to the object with moss, rendering time will become long and seems to be unrealistic. So it is apt for middle-range distance of camera.

It’s fake hair by microdisplacement in Blender2.78. Tiny displacement of moss is noise texture with musgrave texture.

And the moss and rock displacement are divided by another musgrave texture.
